Pita Pinta hatching eggs are sold on a limited basis..I do not offer them year round.

A few years ago only about 2,000 of them existed, but in 2021, the count did increase to 3669 chickens. While still rare, it's no longer considered endangered but still, ‘at risk’.

In the 1950s and 60s, the upcoming egg industry in Asturias introduced improved egg layers, dropping the Pita Pinta population drastically, almost to the point of extinction. It took almost 30 years for the recovery of this breed to begin.

Their unique name comes from the Asturian language. ‘Pita’ means ‘hen’, and ‘pinta’ means ‘painted’. The name refers to their mottled or spotted pattern.

These are large, hardy birds that lay an abundance of cream-colored eggs. Their gentle disposition makes them a farm favorite. They are considered to be dual purpose, with hens laying an abundance of eggs, roughly 250 eggs per year, so about 5 eggs per week. Roosters normally weigh in at a hefty 7 to 9 pounds and hens at about 5 to 6 pounds. This breed will reach maturity between 6 and 8 months of age.

Fertility is checked often and is excellent here at home.

HATCHING EGGS ARE A GAMBLE. We, nor any other breeder can guarantee results. We DO guarantee that eggs are collected fresh, and we test our own fertility weekly. The same eggs you receive are the same eggs that I hatch myself. Once the eggs leave my hands they are out of my control. We DO NOT offer refunds / returns under any circumstances. Shipping can be hard on eggs, they can be delayed in transport, roughly handled, or worse. As a breeder and egg shipper of 5 + years I have witnessed some ridiculous things with the postal service , both as a seller and as a buyer. Although the vast majority of the time they do a good job. Your eggs are automatically insured for $100. If the eggs arrived damaged, or delayed YOU can file a claim online at USPS.com. I highly recommend you message me upon purchase and send me your phone number so that the eggs can be held at the post office instead of being shoved in a carrier car and jostled around for half the day. If you do not message me or put a note to seller upon purchase they will be delivered to your home. Each egg is inspected for cracks / defects prior to packaging. I do not ship dirty eggs. each egg is individually bubble wrapped, placed in a carton pointy side down, bubble wrapped again and placed IN FOAM and into a box to prevent being knocked around. I package extremely well and put fragile stickers and live embryo stickers all over the shipping box. Depending on the number of egg orders I have (sometimes I get 5 orders in the same day) and the rate at which my birds are laying it’s possible that there may be a delay in your order. I work through my egg orders as quickly as I can. If you need your eggs by a certain date you need to message me so I can make sure that I can accommodate you. I want you to have the best hatch possible! Every egg order comes with a hatching guide. We are NPIP + AI tested clean flock. We are inspected every 6 months by the PA state department of Agriculture.
